Supporting Our Team and Community During the Global COVID-19 Mask Shortage

2020.08.04

At the height of the global COVID-19 crisis, when surgical masks were difficult to find across Japan and around the world, Legend Metal worked to secure masks for team members, their families, partners, and nearby communities.

With local supplies nearly gone, the company arranged emergency orders from China, even as prices and shipping costs rose sharply. The goal was simple: to make sure those connected to us had access to basic protection during a difficult time.

Through these efforts, approximately 24,500 masks were secured and distributed.
This included 10,000 masks donated to Kazo City, 10,000 masks donated to Matsubushi City, 1,000 masks provided to Kazo Mizufuka Elementary School, and 500 masks donated to Warabe Nursery School. In addition, around 3,000 masks were distributed to our own team members and partners.

Masks were distributed to all Legend Metal branches in Japan and sent to employees’ families in more than 20 countries. Hundreds of masks reached homes around the world at a time when many couldn’t find even one.

Some were also shared locally — with neighbors and delivery drivers in our community in Saitama. One courier who received a pack of masks told us,

“Thank you for giving us masks. I’ve been washing the one you gave me because we just couldn’t buy them anywhere.”

That moment was a reminder of how small gestures can make a difference. In a period of uncertainty, we learned that looking out for one another — whether near or far — truly matters.
